Features
Sterile dressing for securing intravascular catheters and protecting the insertion site of intravenous lines. Reinforced, breathable, hypoallergenic, and latex-free
Selective permeability
With one of the highest breathability ratings of all fixation dressings, Oper Film Protect IV minimizes the risk of maceration while acting as a barrier against liquids and microorganisms, thereby reducing the risk of infection.
Easy and secure placement
Designed for easy and sterile application:
· Double tab on wings for individual application.
· Paper frame for added stability during placement.
· Tab at top with area to enable application without affecting adhesive.
Hypoallergenic acrylic adhesive
Solvent-free, developed specifically for OFP IV; enables clean, easy, and painless removal and is gentle on the skin around the wound.
Enhanced catheter fixation
OFP IV minimizes the risk of mechanical phlebitis or extravasation due to catheter movement thanks to:
· Reinforced non-woven fabric area at the bottom, with a slit to accommodate the catheter.
· Two strips of non-woven fabric to help secure the catheter.
It also includes a write-on strip to monitor dressing changes.

Tests
A. Water vapor transmission rate test
Water vapor permeability, also known as MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate), is the standard reference value used to assess a dressing’s ability to allow perspiration to evaporate from the patient’s skin.
As a general rule, high MTVR values help to:
- Improve patient comfort by releasing moisture from the area covered by the dressing.
- Increase the adhesive’s long-term durability.
- Reduce the risk of maceration.

Study conducted by an external laboratory certified according to Standard UNE-EN ISO 13726-2 – Test methods for primary wound dressings. Part 2: Moisture vapor transmission rate of permeable film dressings – Direct contact method with water. May 2019.
*US brand, most widely used in Spain in 2019.
According to the study, the average MVTR of OPF IV is approximately 271% higher than that of the Competitor*. Superior performance can be expected from OPF IV in terms of patient comfort and overall skin condition while wearing the dressing, especially in patients with high perspiration (whether due to environmental or medical factors).
B. Wet bacterial penetration resistance test
Resistance to bacterial penetration determines the backing’s degree of permeability to external microorganisms. This enables an objective assessment of the film’s barrier function and thus its effectiveness in protecting the insertion site.

Study conducted by an external laboratory certified according to Standard EN ISO 22610:2006 – Surgical drapes, gowns and clean air suits, used as medical devices, for patients, clinical staff and equipment — Test method to determine the resistance to wet bacterial penetration. July 2019.
The resulting barrier index IB recorded throughout the test was 6.0, which is the maximum achievable value and guarantees total impermeability.
In conclusion, the product acts as an effective barrier against microorganisms and is therefore suitable for its intended use as a point of insertion protector.
